After watching Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness over the weekend, it is safe to say that the MCU has an entry in the horror department.
Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness is a fun and wild ride through the directing of iconic director of Spiderman(2002) and Evil Dead, Sam Raimi. Multiverse of Madness strays from the typically shot blockbuster superhero film that the MCU is notorious for. This film is very much a Sam Raimi project with wacky camera work and his iconic gore (PG-13 film, yet this is the goriest film in the MCU). The element of horror is prominent in this film, there is no shortage of jump scares and disturbing imagery. But this goes hand in hand with the magic aspect of Doctor Strange and is appropriate for this aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I will avoid spoilers, but there are many fan favorite moments that audiences will enjoy. The performances of leads Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch are riveting and contribute to the positives of this film.
This film is not perfect and it definitely has its flaws. One of the bigger flaws would be its pacing mixed with questionable writing. There also moments of "cringe" scenes, which Raimi is known for. However these moments, had me let out an unenthused "wow".
Ultimately Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness is a lot of fun and will have plenty of rewatch value. The pacing and writing does hurt it, but overall viewers will be in for a wild and surprisingly scary(in a fun way) ride.
7.5/10
